In accordance with the Floods Directive, member states or rather River Basin Districts have an extensive reporting obligation. The reports to the EU on the German Elbe River Basin are only available in german language for download on the German web pages. The international reports are available on the web page of the International Commission for the Protection of the Elbe (ICPE).
According to the Floods Directive, reports are to be issued on the following implementation steps:
- by May 26, 2010: Designation of the authorities charged with the implementation (Art.3),
- by December 22, 2010: Use of transitional measures (Art. 13),
- by December 22, 2011: Preliminary flood risk assessment (Art. 4), Determination of areas for which a potential significant flood risks exists (Art. 5) and use of transitional measures (Art. 13)
- by December 22, 2013: Draw up of flood hazard maps and flood risk maps for areas for which a potential significant flood risks exists (Art. 6) and
- by December 22, 2015: Draw up of flood risk management plans for areas for which a potential significant flood risks exists (Art. 7,8)
- by December 22, 2018: Update of the preliminary flood risk assessment (Art. 14(1), 4), Update of areas for which a potential significant flood risks exists (Art. 14(1), 5)
- by December 22, 2019: Update of flood hazard maps and flood risk maps for areas for which a potential significant flood risks exists (Art. 14(2), 6) and
- by December 22, 2021: Update of the flood risk management plan for areas for which a potential significant flood risks exists (Art. 14(3), 7, 8)
